McDonald’s Creating Out of this World Spinoff Concept: CosMc’s

McDonald’s unveiled a new type of store that it calls CosMc’s, part of its plan to accelerate growth and open more locations worldwide, reported Crain’s Chicago Business.   

On the company’s second-quarter earnings call, CEO Chris Kempczinski announced a new type of store format called CosMc’s. While details about the new format are scarce, he explained, “CosMc’s is a small-format concept with all the DNA of McDonald’s but its own unique personality.”

The name is based on an alien character, CosMc, in the company’s fictional McDonaldland. The character appeared in the chain’s commercials in the 1980s and 1990s and visited Earth to satisfy his fast food cravings. Kempczinski noted will give more information about CosMc’s would be shared at the company’s investor day later this year.

McDonald’s second-quarter sales and profits surpassed analysts’ projections, which the company attributed to its viral marketing efforts, like the Grimace Birthday Meal, released in the last weeks of the quarter.
