McCarthy Completes Port Houston Container Yard

The work on the Barbours Cut Terminal Container Yard began in June 2021. It required the demolition of 47,000 square yards of pavement and replacing it with 23,000 cubic yards of concrete pavement, 32,000 cubic yards of base and sublease materials and over 5,000 linear feet of utilities.

The project is part of a modernization program to increase cargo handling efficiency at Port Huston. It will add about 10 acres of new shipping container storage at the terminal complex.

Despite having to perform most of the tasks during the pandemic, McCarthy came in ahead of schedule. McCarthy’s Fitz O’Donnell said it was no small task, “McCarthy has a wealth of experience in both over-water and land-side port work, and our ability to self-perform work allows us to provide top-level results for our clients.”
