McAllen Business Confidence Rises Despite Uncertainty

McAllen-area businesses currently have a 67% confidence level in the local economy, according to the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. The chamber has issued its third Business Status Survey since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Steve Ahlenius, president and CEO of the McAllen Chamber, said the current rating “is reflective of what is happening in the economy. Business confidence continues to grow, but I would like to see the number in the 80% range.”

Asked what the main concerns are, Ahlenius said the two most significant concerns are the second wave of COVID-19 and the economic uncertainty that comes with not knowing what’s next. “There continue to be so many unknowns, and that is never an environment that businesses like to operate in or try to anticipant where to spend money or what do,” said Ahelnius.
