MBA of NY Grants Six Scholarships in 5th Annual Awards 

The Mortgage Bankers of New York (MBA of NY) Scholarship Foundation has granted six scholarships for its 5th Annual Scholarship Awards. A diverse group of applicants represented universities and colleges throughout New York: Baruch, Columbia, Cornell, Fordham, and NYU. 

Richard Carr, managing director, Southwell Realty Capital, serves as the Foundation’s chairman. “I’m honored that the Board has shown the confidence in me to lead this important initiative and I’m proud that we have awarded almost $100,000 in over 25 scholarships over the past five years,” he said. “Supporting the education and growth of young professionals in our industry goes to the core of our organizational identity. We wish all our scholarship recipients continued success in their studies.” 

The 2022 MBA of NY Scholarship Foundation Recipients are: 

  • Hazel Balaban, New York University – Schack Institute of Real Estate, Bonnie Nachamie Memorial Scholarship Recipient 
  • Sheraine Brewster, Fordham University – Real Estate Institute, Michael Fletcher Memorial Scholarship Award 
  • Anthony Goulborne, Schack Institute 
  • Ozge Karza, Fordham  
  • Jessie Pan, Columbia University

About Paul Bubny

Paul Bubny serves as Senior Content Director for Connect Commercial Real Estate, a role to which he brings 16-plus years’ experience covering the commercial real estate industry and 30-plus years in business-to-business journalism. In this capacity, he oversees daily operations while also reporting on both local/regional markets and national trends, covering individual transactions across all property types, as well as delving into broader subject matter. His tenure in B2B publishing stretches back into the print era, and he has served as Editor in Chief on four national trade publications. Since 1999, Paul has volunteered as the newsletter editor of passenger rail advocacy groups (one national, one local).
