Maytag Buildings Donated to Community College

Seven former Maytag corporate campus buildings, totaling 472,000 square feet, have been donated to the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) system. The college system is headquartered in Des Moines, IA, with the buildings located in Newton, IA. Developer Reza Kargarzadeh donated the property, valued at $9 million, to help boost the community college’s presence in Newton.

Preliminary plans call for DMACC to use the buildings for traditional office space, while the industrial park space would be used for business partners, student housing and a potential business incubator. The campus has had few tenants since the Whirlpool corporation departed from Newton almost a decade ago.
