Mayor: Amazon “Really Likes” Two Potential HQ2 Sites
Mayor Rahm Emanuel offered a hint Monday about the outcome of an Amazon scout team’s visit to potential sites for its second North American headquarters. Speaking to reporters during a tour of the forthcoming Walgreens space at the Old Post Office building, the mayor said that out of the five sites the Amazon team toured in March, “it is our understanding that they like, really like, two sites.”
Emanuel didn’t divulge any additional details for fear of alienating Amazon, which is evaluating a list of 20 potential cities for its HQ2 project. However, the Chicago Tribune reported that the Amazon team’s itinerary in March included Related Midwest’s The 78 site (pictured) on the riverfront, and Sterling Bay’s Lincoln Yards.
The mayor’s remarks came in response to a question about whether the Walgreens lease ruled out the Old Post Office redevelopment, which wasn’t on the Amazon team’s itinerary in March.
