New York City Mayor Eric Adams named the leadership for his administration's affordable housing strategy

Mayor Adams, DCP Unveil Zoning Initiative to Support Small Business

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the Department of City Planning (DCP) have unveiled the “City of Yes for Economic Opportunity” plan, aimed at changing zoning citywide to promote economic recovery and support small businesses.

The proposal includes 18 policy changes, such as allowing clean manufacturers and microbreweries to expand their space, permitting new corner stores in residential areas, and eliminating outdated regulations that ban dancing in restaurants and venues. The plan also aims to revitalize commercial corridors, fill vacant storefronts, invest in key growth industries, and modernize use regulations.

The proposal is part of Mayor Adams’ broader “City of Yes” plan, which focuses on carbon neutrality, economic opportunity, and housing opportunity. The zoning text amendment will go through public review processes and ultimately require approval from the New York City Council. The plan aims to create a more inclusive and vibrant economic recovery for the city.
