Mayer Submits Plans for Project in Tacoma Theater District

The Tacoma, WA Theater District is about to see another multifamily project break ground, as the Puget Sound Business Journal reports that Mayer Built Homes has submitted permit requests for an eight-story building at 444 St. Helens Ave. The site is directly across the street from The Lex apartment development which is set to open on February 20.

The 28,000-square-foot building will have a 52-space, two-floor parking garage at the lower levels, topped by six-floors of apartment units. The residences will be studio and one-bedroom, ranging in size from 580 to 732 square feet. Rush Construction is the designated general contractor and Weinstein A+U is the architect. Construction costs are expected to be approximately $16 million.

The Downtown Tacoma Theater District has seen quite a bit of new residential development as the area modernizes. The city has been gathering community feedback with the TRANSFORM project to explore ways to improve the neighborhood’s design and function.
