Matthews Buys 2M-SF Former Dallas Sears Warehouses

Lewisville-based Matthews acquired a nearly 2 million-square-foot, two-building, multistory former Sears Roebuck distribution center in the Cedars district of Dallas (Photo courtesy of DMN). Davidson Bogel Real Estate brokered the transaction.

The seller and most recent occupant was LBA Logistics. The property was once a hub for Sears’ national retail operations and later became the Cedars Commerce Center. LBA Realty had purchased the property from Sears Holdings in 2017 as part of a portfolio sale.

The 2 million-square-foot industrial complex sits on 38.5 acres just south of downtown.

Dallas Innovates reports Matthews wants to gather input from potential investors, tenants, retailers, hospitality operators, and the community before deciding what to do with the property.

Matthews transformed a Sears catalog warehouse on Lamar into a mixed-use development.

Jack Matthews emphasized the company’s collaborative approach “Through almost 30 years of investment, we’ve created a destination that draws nearly 1.8 million visitors annually to the Cedars,” he said. “We believe that with the right plan, this can be a flagship property that will more than double commercial activity in the area — a fully mixed-use property that all of Dallas can enjoy.”

Matthews now operates across three regions—North America, Europe, and the Middle East—with five specialized divisions: Matthews Hospitality, Matthews West, Matthews Energy, Matthews Switzerland, and Inspire Dallas.
