Marisa Lago for NYC Planning
New York City has picked its next Director of the Department of City Planning and Chair of the City Planning Commission. “It’s a great honor to come home to the city I love and be given the chance to make it ever stronger and more equitable,” said Marisa Lago.
It’s a big job. New York City is currently considering zoning changes in 15 neighborhoods around the City.
The new job will be a homecoming for Lago — she started her career in government, as an aide to New York City Planning Chairman Herb Sturz in 1983. Economic development is also a big part of her history, as President and CEO of the New York Empire State Development Corporation, Commissioner of the NYS Department of Economic Development, and the Director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority, that city’s chief planning and economic development agency.
