Mariners Announce Plans for New Facility in Sodo
The Seattle Mariners baseball team is expanding in the city’s Sodo District with plans to develop a new complex, called The Boxyard, across the street from T-Mobile Park. The club said the project at 1201 First Ave. S will include an events space called Victory Hall and a baseball and softball training facility as well.
According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the M’s are the latest pro team in Seattle to develop facilities to engage the fans, joining the Kraken, Sounders FC and Storm. Mariners Executive VP Fred Rivera said it’s a chance to give back to the community and help revitalize Sodo.
The 9,500-square-foot Victory Hall will be attached to Steelheads Alley, a brewery that already exists at the site, and will be open in time for opening day on March 30th. The training facility will include batting cages and an open field space, and will host clinics and camps.
SHKS is the project architect, Bayley Construction is the contractor and the development is expected to cost around $3 million.
