OK'd Mansfield Development could add movie studio, 2,000 jobs

Mansfield OK’s Game-Changing Rezoning for Destination Entertainment Development

The vote could mean over 2,000 jobs to the town of Mansfield. The Mansfield City Council voted to approve zoning for a what could be a large-scale movie production studio, and a number of supporting uses such as a hotel, restaurant and retail space. In a separate vote, they okayed an entertainment-themed mixed-use project and accompanying civic plaza space.

The first project, which is expected to cost $70 million, will include the movie studio, a hotel and retail space on about 70 acres. Super Studios Mansfield, LLC paid $7.3 million for the land from the towns economic development agency.

The second project would make up 54 acres, called Chisolm Flats. The mixed-use development, featuring a substantial restaurant and civic plaza space will be located at the northeast corner of Lone Star Road and Highway 287.

The council also approved two significant economic incentive packages for the two separate projects. The development is expected to reach $450 million in taxable value.
