Seventy-five percent of Manhattan office users have delayed bringing employees back due to omicron.

Manhattan Office Tenants Expect 50% Occupancy by End of Q1

Sixty-one percent of office-using New York City employers expect average daily attendance in their Manhattan offices will exceed 50% by the end of the first quarter, the Partnership for New York City (PFNYC) reported. However, three-quarters of respondents to the latest in PFNYC’s series of office-use surveys said the omicron variant has delayed implementation of their plans to bring employees back onsite.

Twenty-two percent of companies surveyed by PFNYC said they’re currently unable to provide an estimate of when office attendance will exceed 50%. Several noted that increased office attendance is contingent on a decline in COVID-19 cases.

Along with delaying implementation of return-to-office plans, the omicron variant caused employers to change return-to-office protocols. Thirty-four percent of respondents reinstated mask mandates, while 22% of companies closed the offices to non-essential employees. Ten percent have suspended in-person meetings, 7% suspended business travel and 5% have stopped permitting guests in the office.
