Malls Rethink Their Anchor Tenants

After languishing in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, shopping centers across the country are thriving again, says Placer.ai. A key driver behind the resurgence is a shift in how malls view their anchor tenants.

Although traditional mall mainstays like Macy’s and JCPenney still play an important role, specialized offerings increasingly occupy center stage, Placer.ai says in a new report, Rethinking the Mall Anchor in 2025: A Visit-Focused Approach. The report leverages the latest location intelligence data to explore the types of tenants that can function as mall anchors in 2025.

Read the report to learn:

  • How the addition of experiential and niche retailers can deliver anchor-level traffic.
  • Which restaurants are helping draw in foot traffic, and whether size matters for mall dining options.
  • The ways in which a mixed tenant selection can help maintain steady visitor flow throughout the week and during the day.
  • How pop-ups can form an integral part of a visit-focused anchor strategy.
  • What the addition of new mall anchors can mean for current mall tenants.
