Mall Landlords Turning to More Mobile

Faced with competition from online vendors, mall landlords, and their retailers, are moving toward mobile options, such as click-and-collect services, and other interactive shopping functions. As most shoppers carry smartphones with them, some retailers have been experimenting with geolocation capabilities, such as tracking customers as they enter a store, then offering specific promotions.

Though a recent survey indicated that shoppers aren’t all that comfortable allowing retailers to track their locations, 40% of those surveyed did say they would take advantage of the ability to self-checkout using smartphones. Perhaps unsurprisingly, respondents aged 15 to 17 years were more open to innovation than were the remainder of those surveyed.
