Major Warehouse Project Nixed by Beaumont City Council

The booming industrial real estate market in the Inland Empire got a splash of cold water recently, as Summit Station, a 2.55 million-square-foot warehouse project near the I-10 freeway has been rejected by a 4-0 City Council vote in Beaumont, CA.

Summit Station plans called for a four-story hotel, retail space and three logistics buildings catering to e-commerce companies. However, the massive project would’ve been across the street from the Solera Oak Valley Greens senior community, whose residents complained it would cause major truck traffic and the accompanying noise and pollution, ruining property values.

According to the Press Enterprise, the developer of Summit Station, EQT Exeter said its project “will create significantly less environmental impacts than a residential development approved for the site.”

The rejection is the latest Inland Empire pushback on large industrial projects planned for the region, due to pollution and traffic concerns. The Beaumont councilmembers DID leave the door open for EQT Exeter to try another proposal.
