Macon Advancing $350M Arena

A proposed $350 million development that will accommodate upwards of 10,000 people for concerts, sporting events and conventions is expected to open in two years. The new facility will replace Macon Coliseum. The Macon Telegraph reports the town approved the sale of $350 million in taxable revenue bonds to finance the arena. The facility is expected to break ground in July.

Macon Arena is planned to be built in phases at the current site of the coliseum, which will remain in operation during construction. The plan includes a seating bowl that can be reconfigured for various events, outdoor plazas and gathering spaces, and a 30,000-square-foot flex hall to provide additional program space. A center-stage concert in the flex hall could hold up to 12,298 people.

MFA Project Management is working with Macon-Bibb County on the project. PBK Architects serves as the designer, and Barton Malow and Sheridan Construction will lead the build-out of the venue.
