Mackenzie Announces New Hire, Senior Level Promotion in Portland

Mackenzie has announced the growth of its Architecture Department in Portland, Oregon, through the promotion of a new department head, Wendell Mueller, and the strategic hire of Brian Hjelte.

Mueller will oversee the logistics and growth of the architectural discipline at the firm. He joined Mackenzie in 1997 and has served on projects including corporate campuses, mixed-use, and healthcare. “Our architects and designers are in good hands, and I look forward to what the future holds as he takes the reins,” said Alison Hoagland, a member of Mackenzie’s Board of Directors.

Hjelte brings 33 years of experience in architectural design and project management. He has designed for higher education institutes, including Oregon Health and Science University, Oregon State University, and Eastern Oregon University.

Hjelte’s arrival at Mackenzie is his second stint at the firm: his first began in 1990. “We feel very lucky to have him back here, and we are already benefitting from his expertise, focus, and drive,” said Jeff Humphreys, Principal.
