Lucid Motors Drives Headquarters Closer to Tesla
Lucid Motors, the electric-car startup, is doubling its office’s headquarters space and relocating in Newark, CA, which neighbors Tesla’s hometown of Fremont. Currently based in Menlo Park, the company is moving to the Pacific Research Center, where it will be closer to its own prototype design shop.
The company announced its planned electric vehicle, the Lucid Air, in 2016, and debuted the prototype at New York’s Auto Show. While the electric vehicle would theoretically stand to compete with the Tesla Model 3, Peter Rawlinson, the chief technology officer, believes the company’s real competition is German luxury automakers, like Mercedes, Audi, BMW and the like.
The car will be smaller than Tesla’s Model 3, but is said to offer as much interior room as the Mercedes S Class.
