Loop Metrics Trending Upward

Metrics are trending upward in the Loop, according to the Chicago Loop Alliance. The business organization, which has been collecting monthly survey data from its members to track operations during COVID-19, said office occupancy, pedestrian activity, parking volumes and hotel occupancy are all trending upward.

At present, 25% of respondents are open with all staff working onsite; 38% with some staff onsite and some remote; 19% with all staff remote; and 15 percent temporarily closed.Further, the alliance said pedestrian activity for the week ended Sept. 6was up 13% over the prior week, but was down 62% year-over-year.

“The combination of COVID-19, social unrest and subsequent restrictions to access the central business district have been a gut punch to the Loop,” said Loop Alliance president and CEO Michael Edwards. “We’re glad to see all the data trending up, and that the return downtown to ‘Everyone’s Neighborhood’ continues.”
