Beacon Report: California Export Trade Falters in June

Long Beach Port Traffic Improves

Though traffic at the Port of Los Angeles was flat year on year last month, the Port of Long Beach had better results. Cargo movement increased six percent year over year for that month at the facility, hitting 635,250 containers.

Imports rose 4.8 percent at the port, while exports were down 7.4 percent. Meanwhile, empty containers that were returned increased 22.6 percent.

A stronger retail market and smoother operations at the facility were cited as reasons for the improvement.
