Long-Awaited Renovation Begins on Alameda Theater
The Alameda Theater Conservancy will begin renovation on the 70-year-old Alameda theater and a new headquarters for Texas Public Radio in downtown San Antonio. Once completed, the venue at 318 W. Houston St. will house a performing arts and film center offering American-Latino history and diverse programming.
The project’s first phase will focus on environmental mediation, monitoring and oversight during site preparation work. The next construction phase is set for May 2020, with redevelopment completion scheduled for fall 2021.
“It is my hope that restoration of the theater will help recapture some of the culture and rich heritage of our past,” Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez told the San Antonio Business Journal.
