Live Nation Eyes American Stock Exchange for Indoor Venue

Live Nation wants to build a 3,000-seat concert venue in Lower Manhattan, Crain’s New York Business reported. The concert promoter and ticket seller made its first public presentation of the plan at a community board meeting Wednesday evening.

The company and its partner in the venture, Legends, are seeking approvals to lease about 80,000 square feet within the American Stock Exchange building on Trinity Place and turn it into a facility for live music and events space. Those approvals would include a liquor license, and although it’s the State Liquor Authority that grants the licenses, the agency considers input from community boards.

At present, Live Nation holds concerts downtown during the warm months on the roof of Pier 17 at the Howard Hughes Corporation’s South Street Seaport. That venue opened last year for outdoor-only events. The Trinity Place venue would host music events and other entertainment year-round, Crain’s reported.
