Little Tokyo Planning 175 Affordable Housing Units in DTLA

Plans for a new affordable housing project in downtown Los Angeles have been filed with the Department of City Planning by the Little Tokyo Service Center, according to the Los Angeles Downtown News. The go forward move follows the non-profit’s acquisition last May of the former Umeya Rice Cake Factory located at 414 Crocker St. in the area between Little Tokyo and Skid Row nicknamed “Skidrokyo.”

The existing structure at the site will be demolished, and replaced with an apartment building featuring 175 affordable housing units and 8,691 square feet of ground-floor commercial space (the Center’s original plans called for a maximum of 150 units). The site would also include 19 parking stalls and 125 spaces for bicycles. The budget and timeline for the project were not announced.
