LISC Spotlights Neighborhood-Led Projects in 25th Annual Awards
Ten organizations behind projects on the city’s South, West and North Sides were honored at the 25th annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards earlier this month. The event was organized by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation Chicago.
Among the winners was Whole Foods for its 140,000-square-foot distribution center in Pullman. In a video accompanying the award, Ald. Anthony Beale credited the project with catalyzing economic development.
“The Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards was born out of the need to elevate the activity and importance of neighborhood-led development and planning efforts, and the importance of good neighborhood design and architecture,” said LISC Chicago’s Meghan Harte. “Since that time, much has changed. At this moment of great change when a promised focus will be on the neighborhoods and ensuring that needed growth reaches into every corner of the city, we have much to celebrate, much to contribute and, as always, much to learn.”
