“Lightscape” Displays Removed from State Street After 9-Year Run

Chicago Loop Alliance has removed “Lightscape” after a nine-year run for the light and sound installation in State Street’s planter boxes. The downtown management organization will consider a replacement in line with its Elevate State corridor plan for State Street. The plan was scheduled for completion this year but was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19.

“‘Lightscape’ has become an integral, beloved part of State Street over the past decade, but we’re excited to explore how this space can be used in a future version of State Street,” said Loop Alliance CEO Michael Edwards.

He continued, “When we installed ‘Lightscape’ in 2011, we did so with the understanding that its lifespan would be about five years. We’re glad it was a part of State Street for nearly twice that length of time, but in our ongoing efforts to promote the Loop as a world-class destination, it is time for a reimagining.”
