Lightfoot Reinstates Some Restrictions as COVID Cases Return
The Lightfoot administration will re-tighten COVID-19 restrictions for bars, restaurants, gyms and personal services as a precaution due to a recent increase in community cases of the virus. The reinstatement of certain restrictions takes effect July 24.
Among other restrictions being reinstated:
• Bars and other establishments serving alcohol for on-site consumption without a retail food license can no longer serve customers indoors.
• Maximum party size and table occupancy at restaurants, bars, taverns and breweries will be reduced to six people.
• Indoor fitness classes will be limited to 10 people.
• Residential property managers will be asked to limit guest entry to five per unit.
“We have made so much progress here in Chicago in containing the spread of the virus, protecting our health system and saving lives, and in general, the virus remains under control locally,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot. “But we are again seeing a steady increase in new cases.”
