Lightfoot Cabinet Contains Mix of New and Familiar Faces
Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a slate of senior staff appointments on Tuesday, the day after her inauguration. Among other appointments, Samir Mayekar was named Deputy Mayor for Neighborhood and Economic Development, and Marisa Novara was named the new Commissioner of Housing.
Eleanor Gorski, Deputy Commissioner of Planning and Development, and Thomas R. Carney, Deputy Transportation Commissioner, will run their respective departments on an interim basis until permanent appointees are found.
“We are hitting the ground running with a talented team of public servants ready to serve every Chicagoan,” said Lightfoot. “I look forward to working with these experienced professionals to ensure a responsive, transparent government that creates equity, opportunity and growth for every neighborhood in our city.”
Dorval Carter Jr., president of the Chicago Transit Authority under Mayor Rahm Emanuel, holds the same role in the new administration. Eugene Jones, the Chicago Housing Authority’s CEO, is also staying on.
