Lidl Opens 754K-SF Warehouse Ahead of Schedule
German grocer Lidl opened a new 754,000-square-foot regional headquarters and distribution center in Perryville, MD ahead of schedule, to meet a surging demand for food amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The new facility at Principio Business Park “will serve as the backbone of Lidl’s regional store network, quickly supplying products to stores in five states,” the company said. Lidl US is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
The warehouse was originally slated to open in the late spring or early summer. However, the Washington Business Journal reported that the opening was moved up as shoppers have flooded markets amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis that has spawned a shelter-in-place order by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan.
“The facility will allow us to efficiently deliver our award-winning products to thousands of customers from Maryland to New York, and support our expansion across the region,” said Johannes Fieber, CEO of Lidl US.
