LG Announces Robots for Multiple Service Industries

South Korean technology company LG is showcasing robots at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this month. The robots’ intended uses will span across various industries in the services sector, including hospitality, airports and supermarkets.

The artifical intelligence could, in theory, replace workers in such positions, with the ability to deliver foods and drinks to hotel guests, carry luggage to rooms, handle check-in and check-out, and guide customers down the aisles of grocery stores, as well as help them with product pricing.

The International Labour Organization said that nearly 50% of the global workforce is employed in the services sector, as of May 2017. Additionally, a recently released report by McKinsey & Company suggest that as many as 800 million workers could be replaced by robots in 2030.
