Lendlease Opens Green Space at Southbank Development

Lendlease recently celebrated the grand opening of Southbank Park, a two-acre green space that anchors the firm’s new Southbank development underway in the South Loop. The seven-acre project will include several mixed-use towers upon completion.

Southbank Park includes an adjacent riverwalk bordering the South Branch of the Chicago River. “By introducing publicly accessible green space and a fully programmed riverwalk, we’ve reestablished connectivity – to the riverfront and between downtown and neighborhoods farther south,” said Ted Weldon, executive general manager for Lendlease Development in Chicago.

Other park amenities include bicycle racks, a central lawn and viewing platform showcasing the river and a skyline view.

“Southbank Park is designed to bring the public and the tower residents to the riverfront,” said Todd Snapp of Perkins&Will, which created the master plan for Southbank. “Eight years ago, nobody would go near the river. Now, people are kayaking on it.”

Connect Chicago Fall 2019 will take place Oct. 29 in Chicago. For more information, or to register, click here.
