Lawyers in Real Estate 2020: HAT’s Matt Ames
Matt Ames, a partner at Hubacher Ames & Taylor PLLC in Fairfax, VA, specializes in cable and telecommunications law. He assists developers, owners and managers of residential and commercial multi-unit properties, REITs, condominium developers, single family developers, condominium associations, and homeowners associations in negotiating and drafting service contracts, marketing agreements, and right of entry documents.
Ames has represented a variety of public and private sector clients in Federal Communications Commmisssion rulemakings. He has represented the interests of the real estate industry in a series of proceedings dealing with access to property, including the Over-the-Air Reception Devices, competitive networks, and exclusive access proceedings, and subsequent appeals.
Most recently, Ames represented a broad coalition of real estate stakeholders, led by the National Multifamily Housing Council, in pushing back against FCC efforts to further regulate agreements between property owners and broadband providers. These regulations, Ames argued in an Oct. 22 letter to FCC Secretary Marlene Dortch, would interfere with private property rights, harm investment, constrain competition, limit consumer access to broadband and other telecom services and even raise the cost of developing and operating multifamily housing and other commercial real estate assets.
Before joining HAT, Ames was a founding partner of the Washington, D.C., firm of Miller & Van Eaton, and Acting General Counsel of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
It’s for these reasons that we named Matt Ames to our inaugural grouping of Lawyers in Real Estate. These are real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.
