Lawyers in Real Estate 2020: Hillis Clark’s Kurt Kruckeberg

Kurt Kruckeberg, principal of Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson in Seattle, has devoted his career to understanding the real estate challenges faced by developers, lenders, and property owners. Colleagues say Kruckeberg takes great pride in offering an integrated suite of services to his clients, including experience ranging from office, multifamily, industrial, and retail projects. His work often involves sophisticated transactions for clients in the education, technology, and healthcare industries.

Clients appreciate Kruckeberg’s ability to tailor creative solutions for complicated deals, including structuring airspace condominiums, ground leases and leasebacks, and joint ventures for the ownership and development of real estate projects. He’s known for his commitment to client service, responsiveness, knack for problem-solving, and ability to get deals done.

In addition to his deep real estate background, Kruckeberg assists lenders and borrowers with commercial, construction, and permanent financing. Above all, clients reportedly love working with him because he understands that the practice of law is personal. He meaningfully connects with his clients, listens actively, and can make the largest deals or the stickiest negotiations feel manageable, colleagues say.

Kruckeberg is passionate about enriching and challenging the next generation of lawyers and currently serves as an adjunct faculty member of the University of Washington School of Law, where he teaches Civil Procedure. He also supports and is a member of several organizations in the legal community, including QLaw, Washington Lawyers for the Arts, and the Greater Seattle Business Alliance.

It’s for these reasons that we named Kurt Kruckeberg to our inaugural grouping of Lawyers in Real Estate. These are real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.
