Lawyers in Real Estate 2020: Silverstein Properties Inc.’s Jonathan Knipe

As EVP and General Counsel for Silverstein Properties, Inc. (SPI), Jonathan Knipe is the company’s chief legal officer and corporate secretary. Knipe works with all of the company’s departments on a wide range of matters, including joint ventures, new development projects, financing, leasing, risk management and operations. Knipe is on the firm’s investment committee and management committee, and one of his primary responsibilities is managing the legal and business aspects of SPI’s projects at the World Trade Center site.

Prior to joining SPI at the beginning of 2006, Knipe was General Counsel for Fisher Brothers, a New York City-based real estate development, finance and construction company. Before Fisher Brothers, Mr. Knipe was a VP at the Related Companies, where he was a member of the development team that completed Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle.

Knipe is active in a number of nonprofit and educational programs, including serving on the board of trustees of the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF); as the chairperson of the Penn State Smeal College of Business Real Estate Advisory Board and as senior fellow at New York Law School where he teaches a seminar on real estate joint ventures, public and private.

It’s for these reasons that we named Jonathan Knipe to our inaugural grouping of Lawyers in Real Estate. These are real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.
