A formal ground breaking is slated later this month for Los Angeles Football Club’s (LAFC) $350-million, 22,000-seat soccer stadium in Exposition Park. The facility is being built on the former site of the 57-year-old LA Memorial Sports Arena that is being demolished.
The Gensler-designed stadium will anchor a larger development that includes a conference center, office space, soccer museum and 10,000 square feet of restaurants. A series of glass canopies provide spectators protection from the weather, while framing views of the DTLA skyline. The state-of-the-art facility is envisioned as an intimate European-style soccer venue for Major League Soccer’s latest expansion team.
The LAFC Stadium is expected to be completed in time for the 2018 season, and figures into LA’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
