GAF Roofing Plant Starts work in Georgetown

Largest Solar Roofing Plant to Open in Austin Suburb

GAF Energy, a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of solar roofing products, started work on a 450,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in the northern Austin suburb of Georgetown. That makes it one of the largest plants of its type in the country. The facility is expected to add about 260 new jobs to the local economy. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete in summer 2023, with the plant becoming fully operational by the end of that year.

GAF’s Keally DeWitt had this, “From the founding of the company, we believed that this solar roof could be manufactured in America, and today proves that that can be done. When this facility is complete, it will be the largest solar roofing manufacturing facility…that is history in the making, and most importantly, it will create hundreds of jobs.”

Atlanta-based Portman Industrial is leading the development of the facility in conjunction with design-build firm ARCO/Murray.
