Landmarks Illinois Issues 2021 Roster of Endangered Places
Two sites in Chicago, including the Altgeld Gardens Shop Building and School Buildings B and C on the Far South Side and the James R. Thompson Center downtown, are among the sites identified by Landmarks Illinois as being among the 2021 Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois. The group annually publishes a list of the top threatened architecturally and culturally significant sites throughout the state.
“Our 2021 Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois demonstrates the demand for creative solutions, partnerships and incentives to give places of our past a chance for reuse and renewed life,” said Bonnie McDonald, president & CEO of Landmarks Illinois.
Other properties include the Broadview Hotel in East St. Louis, Havana Water Tower in Havana, Illinois Terminal Interurban Station in Decatur, the Joliet Steel Mill Main Office Building in Joliet, Klas Restaurant in Cicero, Scott Foresman Headquarters in Glenview and Green Book Sites statewide.
