Landmarked Bronx Church Files Plans for MXU
Saint James Episcopal Church in the Bronx has filed plans with the New York City Department of Buildings for a 102-unit mixed-use project, Crain’s New York Business reported. It would be adjacent to the landmarked church.
The development at 2520 Jerome Ave. in Fordham would be split between about 73,000 square feet of residential space and 21,000 square feet of community space. It’s not immediately clear whether the project would include market-rate units, affordable housing or both, Crain’s reported.
Saint James filed plans with the city at the beginning of 2016 to build a 13-story, 104-unit building at 2520 Jerome that would span about 91,000 square feet. The project’s plan exam, however, was disapproved later that year.
Churches across the city, coming to terms with New York’s development boom in recent years, have been trying to determine the most effective ways to use their often-valuable real estate, according to Crain’s.
