Landlord Connects Over Food

The owner of the retail space at 517 Columbus Ave. had dined regularly at the Viand Café, a popular Upper West Side family diner that has operated in the Hotel Beacon at 2130 Broadway for more than 15 years.

So it was good news when he found out that the new prospective tenants for his 1,856-square-foot space at the corner of 85th Street and Columbus Ave. were the owners of the Viand, aiming to open up a second location.

“The fact that the landlord patronized the Viand Café was the deciding factor in getting this deal done because he knows firsthand that it’s a great restaurant with terrific food,” said Ben Biberaj, associate director for Eastern Consolidated, which represented the tenant.

Walker Malloy & Company Inc. advised the landlord, Shared Equities LLC.
