Land Becoming Scarce in Fort Bend County

The good news for Fort Bend County, TX is that population is booming. The population of the county, which contains Sugar Land and Missouri City, was approximately 579,000 in 2010, and is anticipated to reach more than one million by 2013, according to the Houston-Galveston Area Council. Missouri City has 74,139 residents, while Sugar Land stands at 88,156.

The not-so-good news is that the county is running out of housing space for the growing population. The current housing demand is consuming most of the buildable ground in both major cities, which is sending housing prices soaring. Sugar Land’s median home price tops $425,000, which makes home-owning out of reach for first-time buyers. Meanwhile, Missouri City’s median prices increased from $254,000 to $348,000 from October 2013 to November 2016. Both cities are also facing heavier traffic patterns.
