LA Updates 2024 Olympics Bid Book

The city of Los Angeles has released a revised bid book for the 2024 Olympics, along with a new logo for the games. While UCLA is still a part of the mix, the new plan has nixed Piggyback Yard on the LA River, and shifted some of the sports’ locations on the Bruin campus.

Changes include:

  • Drake Stadium- will be a training facility
  • North Athletic Field- for Field hockey
  • Pauley Pavilion- for volleyball (instead of the initial basketball plan)
  • Los Angeles Tennis Center- water polo

Officials say that the Olympics will be “a catalyst for connecting the City of LA through new community green spaces,” with open park clusters in Downtown, the Valley, Westside and South Bay. The green areas will remain after the games, for public use and community space.

The city is also looking to expedite the build-out of the Purple Line, which connects UCLA to Downtown, in time for the games.
