LA Metro Opens Regional Connector Bringing Four Transit Lines Together
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s $1.8-billion Regional Connector transit project formally opened on Friday, adding three new stations and connecting four transit lines. Nearly a decade in the making, the L.A. Metro project adds 1.9 miles of new track allowing light rail trains to travel between Union Station and the 7th Street/Metro Center Station in Downtown Los Angeles.
“For the first time since the Blue Line opened over 30 years ago, it will now provide a seamless, single-seat connection from Downtown Long Beach to Union Station, Pasadena and beyond,” said LA County Supervisor and second vice chair Metro board member Janice Hahn.
Skanska led the construction of the project with Traylor Bros. Inc., excavating one of the largest caverns in L.A. and performing all mining and maintenance, reported the Los Angeles Business Journal. The design-build contract between the city, Skanska and Traylor Bros. was approved in April 2014.
