Station42 hopes to revitalize downtown Killeen

Killeen Hopes New Rental Community Livens Up Downtown

Station42, a 368-unit, upscale apartment complex, is preparing to open at the corner of South W.S. Young Dr. and Veteran’s Memorial Blvd in Killeen. NRP is building the project.

The project includes apartment units with one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans. One-bedroom apartments start at about $1,000 per month. Amenities will include a resort-style pool, private garages, and dog park.

The $51 million complex was built to boost the economy and spur new business in downtown Killeen, which has been deteriorating for decades despite efforts from current and past city councils. Mayor Debbie Nash-Kiing added, “We have to face reality, the downtown area has been declining for several years. Two grocery stores closed, churches relocated and one of the largest private businesses downtown is planning to move to a new area.”

Fifty percent of its units are rate-limited to 80 percent of the area’s median income, effectively reducing rent by 20 percent for those units.
