Katy Rice Silos to become historical tourist attraction

Katy Rice Dryer Silo to Get New Life

After nearly three decades of misuse and decay, a plan for new life for Katy’s J.V Cardiff & Sons Rice Dryer. The three silos are basically large cylindrical structures that once stored rice. Austin-based developer Hadi “Andrew” Nurcahya has filed a permit with the town to renovate the dryers. He wants to turn the site into a community gathering place that aims to be a driver for economic growth at the historic site.

Even though the permit is only saying he plans to spend $2.1 on the renovation of the silos, Nurcahya plans to put over $7 million into the site at a later stage. He hopes to add a food hall featuring local restaurants, a beer garden, green space with a playground, a vending area for small-business owners to sell their products and a co-working space. He hopes to have work on the three acre parcel done by next year.
