Katy Prepares for Urban Core Renovation
Starting in January, Katy TX will begin demolition of its old downtown city hall. The activity will formally launch the city’s urban core renovation efforts, which city leaders hope will attract retail developers downtown.
Also in store for Katy, west of Houston, are new streets and sidewalks surrounding the city hall. Meanwhile, city officials hope that an outdoor museum or other entertainment space will replace the old city hall. The older structure is across the street from the newer civic building at 901 Avenue C. City staff moved into the new city hall in May.
According to Jack Duran with Turner Duran Architects, the overall goal is to attract local business owners and commercial developers to the area. “We have to start by keeping Katy people in Katy,” said Duran, whose company designed the new city hall facility.
