Katy ISD’s $70-Million Sticker Shock
Construction on the Katy Independent School District’s second football stadium, as well as improvements to the district’s student activity facilities complex, are coming in at a total of more than $70 million. The stadium is on track for a fall, 2017 opening.
The stadium is being funded as part of a $748 million KISD bond referendum approved by voters in 2014. The bond allocated approximately $58 million to fund the new stadium which has seating for 12,000 as well as a press box, field house, concessions and parking. The stadium continues to be $58 million, indicated district spokeswoman Maria DiPetta.
The additional construction costs, however, are coming from improvements to the activity facilities complex, with $7 million coming from the 2014 bond, and the additional $5.3 million coming out of general operating funds. The money is being directed to utilities, a parent drop-off driveway and maintenance building.
