Kansas City Current Set to Debut New Stadium
A historic new venue in the downtown Kansas City area is preparing to make its debut in the sporting world.
The Kansas City Current, the city’s National Women’s Soccer League club, will soon debut a state-of-the-art stadium. The $117 million, 11,500-capacity CPKC Stadium is the first of its kind to be purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team. It’s also a pivotal moment with the stadium’s opening on March 16, when the Current will face the Portland Thorns FC in the team’s home opener.
Developed by a project team including J. E. Dunn Construction Group, Monarch Build, and Generator Studio, the facility is situated along the 17-acre Berkley Riverfront Park on the south bank of the Missouri River. The stadium will anchor an ongoing riverfront development project by Port KC. In 2023, the team obtained rights for almost 11 acres adjacent to CPKC Stadium, in addition to development and incentive terms for an $800 million mixed-use neighborhood.
