John Hreno Joins Gates Architects as Associate Principal

John Hreno has joined Gates + Associates as associate principal at its San Ramon headquarters. Gates is a landscape architecture, urban design and land planning firm.

A 20-year industry veteran who relocated from San Diego, Hreno will support Gates’ statewide practice while adding capabilities for potential growth.

“We have been navigating the cultural shifts and impact of the pandemic, and adding depth will position us as the economy recovers,” said Casey Case, president of the firm. “We anticipate more growth and hiring as our clients see the need to ‘get outside’ is what their employees, customers and residents want now more than ever.”

Hreno has worked nationally and globally as a designer, project manager, studio coordinator, mentor and builder.

“With the increasing interest in outdoor live/work/shop/play experiences, landscape architecture can truly make significant positive social impact, and enhance people’s health and productivity,” said Hreno. “I’ve worked in the realms of landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, ecology and art, and try to draw from the whole cloth to explore creative solutions for client objectives.”
