JBG SMITH Doubles Commitment to Alexandria Affordable Housing

JBG SMITH is doubling its commitment to preserve workforce housing affordability in Alexandria, Virginia, raising pledged units from 500 to 1,000 as part of the Potomac Yard arena and entertainment district proposal.

The decision follows discussions with Alexandria officials and legislators. JBG SMITH plans to partner with Alexandria to identify and preserve 1,000 workforce housing units, focusing on neighborhoods near the arena. This aligns with Alexandria’s goal of creating 2,250 affordable workforce housing units by 2030. The company’s Impact Pool, established in 2018, helps prevent displacement by securing affordable housing options for workers earning too much for housing assistance but not enough for rising rents.

“Housing that is affordable and accessible is not just a piece of the puzzle, it’s integral to a holistic approach that drives equitable solutions to employment, transportation, and economic inclusion,” said Matt Kelly, CEO at JBG SMITH.
