Japanese Publisher Buys Midtown Townhouse for $27M
Kodansha USA Publishing, a Japanese publishing and comic book company, has acquired 25 East 22nd Street, a 17,185-square-foot office building in the Flatiron district, for a final price of $27 million from Audrey Cappell, equivalent to $1,571 per square foot.
The property was previously occupied by three nonprofit tenants and once served as the headquarters for Nike. The building features an elevator, event hall, meeting rooms, lounges, private offices, conference rooms, kitchens, and outdoor roof decks.
The seller was represented by Cushman & Wakefield’s Craig Waggner, John Ciraulo, Jack Stephen, Carri Lyon, and Mark Mandell. “David Chiu, the founder of international clothing company Nautica, gut renovated the property to redevelop it into what it is today. Renovations included the addition of the two top floors, which served as a remarkable pied-à-terre apartment for him and later an office with magnificent outdoor terraces.” said Ciraulo.
